GRAZING SEASON: MAY–OCTOBER
KUDZU
REMOVAL
Why goats for kudzu?
Kudzu is the vine that ate the South, and it is one of our goats’ favorite meals. A kudzu patch can grow up to a foot a day in summer, smothering trees, fences and anything else in its path. Our herd strips leaves and vines down to the ground with no herbicides, on slopes and in spots mowers and crews can’t reach.
When we graze kudzu
Kudzu is a warm-season plant. It goes dormant and drops its leaves after the first frost, so we graze it during the growing season, roughly May through October. Book in late winter or early spring to get on the schedule before peak season.
What it takes to beat kudzu
Kudzu stores energy in large roots and root crowns. One grazing visit sets it back hard, but it will regrow. Repeated grazing during the growing season, over more than one year, keeps the plant from rebuilding those reserves and weakens it over time. Many customers book us for maintenance visits, and our subscription plans spread the cost across the year.
